To clarify: by class-life quests I mean the repeatable random quests given by the class-advancement NPCs, i.e. A Swordsman's Life and by the purchasable-item gather quests I mean the ones that require you to hand over items that can be purchased through blacksmiths, tailors, and merchants like weapons, armor pieces, and basic merchant items(apples, bread, and cakes).
These don't make sense from a gathering standpoint because they are all either extremely tedious or impossible to obtain without purchasing directly from an NPC. Weapons and armor pieces are dropped by mobs at a 0.1-0.3% drop rate and merchant items can only be bought from merchants.
The quests, more often than not, boil down to walking to an NPC that sells the required item and then walking back to the quest-giver to hand over that item. The rewards for these quests mean that you'll either:
- gain money, if you had to purchase merchant items
- loose money, if you had to purchase weapons/armor-pieces(even if you get the drop from a mob those items will get you more gold by simply abandoning the quest and selling directly to an NPC)
These quests don't contribute in any meaningful way to the game. Even simply removing them would be an improvement.
